Is This Training for You?

CED is all about building communities by finding and developing local solutions to local problems. Say, for example, that there is a need in your community that is going unaddressed, like a lack of clothing providers. One answer would be to look online to find clothing retailers there. But that solution isn’t ideal because it ends with your hard-earned money leaving the community, never to benefit anyone other than the shareholders of the site those clothes were purchased from. Another answer, the CED approach, solves this local problem in a different way. By looking locally and asking, “what would all need to be done to make it possible to sell clothes here”. With this approach, the money you spend benefits not only the owner of the local shop selling you clothes but also all the places they end up spending your money themselves.

CED training is about giving you the tools to find and identify the needs your community has, as well as how to begin addressing those needs for the good of your area. CED training is about teaching you how to build up local businesses, organizations and individuals to address the problems in your community, causing it to thrive as a result.

Are you interested in becoming a certified Economic Development Officer? Do you work in local government? Or are you involved with local not-for-profits, charities, businesses or are you just interested in developing the skills necessary to build your community, working to promote economic stability, diversification, and sustainability as a result? If any of this interests you, there will be something of value for you to learn in these modules.

The entire Community Edge CED program is made up of eight half-day modules, together covering how CED is best done in Manitoba. This training day is comprised of two of these modules, with the possibility of bringing the other six to town if there is interest. If you complete all eight modules, you can even look to be certified, opening new career opportunities in this growing field.
