TTES Consulting Inc. has long been a beacon of what MacGregor business is all about. Operating across much of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Ontario, when people are looking for quality survey or design work, along with a host of other services, they turn to TTES, headquartered in MacGregor, Manitoba. Every time this happens, the reputation that ‘MacGregor is where you go for quality,’ becomes a little more prominent.

For this week’s MacGregor Homegrown Business Highlight, I talked with Sadie Rushton, the Business Development Manager at TTES, to ask her what all goes into building that reputation for excellence that TTES holds.

Tell me what TTES all does specifically? Who is involved?

TTES Consulting offers survey, design, geotechnical (material testing), machine control, and project management services to contractors, engineers, and owner firms in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Ontario.  Our projects range from small commercial parking lots to complex mine sites.  TTES is owned by Jeff Tait and 13 people are currently employed by us.

Tell me the story of how TTES began.

Jeff’s career in the construction industry began back in 1988.  In the beginning, he operated a small aggregate lab, designed parking lots and roadways, performed construction layout, assisted contractors with estimates and quantities, and even painted lines on parking lots and streets. But through hard work and a dedication to getting things right, his business grew. Then, in 2004 Jeff began operating under the name TTES Consulting and incorporated in 2007. The rest is history.

How has running TTES gone over the years?

TTES has been continuously expanding over the years.  In 2007 the company began creating models, offering machine control as well as GPS services.  It was an expansion into the construction technology field which at the time had few industry experts or competition. It was a great move that put us on the cutting edge.

Today TTES has offices in MacGregor, Brandon, Reston, and Saskatoon (under our sister company Survcon Geomatics).  During our busy season, up to thirty Municipal Technologists, Civil Technicians, Surveyors, and Quality Control staff are employed to handle the workload.

Why was TTES started in MacGregor?

MacGregor is home. It is nice to be able to work and live in your home town.  More than just this, MacGregor is also a convenient location, being along the TransCanada Highway.  It serves as a base for employees who may spend many weeks working on sites at various locations across Central Canada.

Since MacGregor is our home, we love to give back as well. We donate to many projects and events in MacGregor, including the MacGregor Wild, MacGregor Town & Country Golf Club, and Centennial Park.

How has Covid impacted TTES?

TTES has been able to operate as an essential service during the COVID-19 shutdowns, however we have had to make many adjustments during this time. We have increased cleaning and sanitization procedures, we provide face-coverings as required, and utilize phones and computers in place of in-person meetings when able.  2020 has been a slow year, but as the provinces are re-opening our work load has been increasing.

Any additional details that would encourage people to help TTES now?

Due to the nature of our work, most projects we run are outside of North Norfolk; however, please keep us in mind for your commercial or industrial project needs.  Positive referrals and word of mouth advertising are always much appreciated as well.  You can also visit our recently updated website and Facebook Page to see what we are up to now.

Due to the impact of Covid-19, TTES is asking all clients and potential clients to call ahead for meetings.
